CHARLES BOOKER EMERGES AS CLEAR WINNER IN KENTUCKY U.S. SENATE DEBATE

LOUISVILLE, KY — Yesterday, in the sole debate of the Kentucky U.S. Senate race, Democratic nominee Charles Booker proved why he is the clear choice to succeed Mitch McConnell.

Booker’s calm and composure stood in clear contrast to Barr’s obviously flustered, overwhelmed demeanor, exemplified early on by Barr’s need to ask moderator Bill Bryant to repeat a question on healthcare.

Over the course of the hour-long debate, Booker:

  • Detailed Barr’s past support for Congressional term limits and how, despite having now served 14 years in the House of Representatives, he once proposed a bill limiting members to 12. When Booker called on Barr to agree to Congressional term limits, he ignored the question entirely and, in a post-debate interview, confirmed he now holds the opposite position.
  • Told the story of Mary Lou Abner, a lifelong Republican who had voted for Barr for years. A member of the Kentucky Tenant Union, Abner went to Barr for help when her out-of-state landlord refused to make agreed-upon repairs and threatened to evict tenants for displaying union signage. Barr promised assistance only to ignore them afterwards. Booker recently joined Abner at a press conference, and she’s declared her support for him.
  • Explained his plan to provide Americans with the same affordable, high-quality healthcare that Mitch McConnell and Andy Barr have received, referencing his past need to choose between refilling his insulin and feeding his children.
  • Emphasized Barr’s continued support for the war in Iran, despite the deaths of two Kentuckians in the conflict and its impact on skyrocketing gas prices.
  • Called on Barr to name a time in which he broke with McConnell. After being ignored, he later highlighted Barr’s support of President Trump’s tariffs, despite McConnell and Rand Paul’s opposition, and his overall inaction in addressing the affordability crisis and inflation.
  • Highlighted the hypocrisy in Barr calling for safety despite refusing to release the Epstein files.
  • Overviewed how Barr has “been in Congress 14 years now and has done nothing to protect our rights, nothing to protect our liberties,” and called out the absurdity of Barr promising to solve a hoard of issues while doing nothing with the power he currently wields.

“Charles Booker was the only one who seemed to understand what folks like me are dealing with, and he actually told us what he’s gonna do to help. I’ve felt forgotten for so long, like nobody up there cares what happens to people like me. And tonight, hearing him talk about the things I struggle with every single day, it just meant something to me. For once, I felt like somebody heard me. Like somebody actually cares. I never thought I’d get that emotional just listening to somebody speak, but I did. God bless Charles Booker,” said Mary Lou Abner, Vice President of the Ridgeway Park Tenant Union.

Overall, Booker summarized his campaign with a call to “do something different. Democrats, Republicans, and Independents.” With only two weeks until Election Day, Booker will continue his Kentucky Over Politics Tour across Kentucky, connecting with voters and furthering his Kentucky First agenda.
