Raising three daughters in Kentucky, I know how important it is to ensure young Kentuckians have every opportunity not just to survive, but to thrive here. Costs keep rising, putting dreams of college, starting a small business, or buying that first home out of reach for young people. The American Dream feels out of reach, and young people deserve leadership in Washington who will also deliver for them.
In the Senate, I will work to expand Pell Grants and work-study eligibility so young Kentuckians can level up their skills. We can also expand apprenticeship programs by partnering with our friends in organized labor so young people can earn a real living while learning a trade.
As someone who worked his way through college, I understand the burden of student loans and the high costs of getting an education. No one should have to spend their life paying for an education several times over. High interest rates and a lack of quality repayment and forgiveness options have left too many looking at a lifetime of debt. It's time for a comprehensive proposal to reduce or eliminate existing student loan debt.
