Our public schools and the teachers who make them great should not be political targets of this or any administration. The current administration is withholding funds from public schools, decimating our special education programs, and forcing through massive cuts to staffing and funding.
The Department of Education has been weaponized against Kentucky’s public schools, and Andy Barr has done next to nothing to stop it. When I get to Washington, we’re going to stop the politicization of our public schools and get to work rebuilding and reenergizing them for the next generation.
On day one, I will start working on solutions to these policy changes. I will oppose any further cuts to special education programs or efforts to divert public school funding to private schools. I will also cosponsor the Rural Education Investment Act, the Invest in Rural Teachers Act, and the Addressing Teacher Shortages Act to ensure we have the resources and educators needed to give every child in Kentucky, from the hood to holler, a high-quality education every parent can be proud of.
